Amtoft, Denmark

So last week we visited a couple of beaches in Denmark, where there are no palm trees or fruit smoothie stands to greet you, but who needs that when you have some cool WWII bunkers?

This week we will take a look around the tiny little beach town of Amtoft, where Peter's parents (along with a few other Danes) have a summer house (sommerhus).

And, of course, here is the map of Denmark to show you where we are:

Now one thing that always struck me as a little funny is that Peter's parents have a summer house that is only about 10 miles or so from where they live.

But, it really is a nice, quiet getaway. And provides some extra room to put people when you have a lot of friends or family visiting.

Anywho....the trip from Aalborg to the summer house is a bit longer and provides a nice scenic drive. You see lots of this.....

...and after a while come to the conclusion that the Danish countryside is flat. In fact, the highest elevation point is only about 600 feet.

Something else you will see a lot of are windmills. There are thousands of these scattered across Denmark.

And here is Peter's parents summerhouse. These two pictures were taken a couple of years ago, before Peter's step-father started doing some home improvement.

Here is the "after" picture. Peter's stepdad is an excellent carpenter:

And look, if you stay here Peter's mom will have breakfast waiting for you each morning:

Around the area you will find homes like this:

After a short walk from their summerhouse you will come to the beach.

Looking to the right...

...looking to the left...

...and looking down. I always thought that jellyfish were only found in warm waters, so these little guys must be arctic jellyfish.

Here is the harbor:

Recently they had a wind storm (I told you Denmark is windy) and here is a picture of the harbor during that:

The wind was so strong that it knocked down several trees on their property:

Thanks for joining me on this little trip through Amtoft. Join me again next week when we take a tour of Rubjerg Knude, a lighthouse that is now half buried under a huge sand dune.
